What is going on at Fermilab?
Am in the middle of the diavlog but so far they have not talked about (potentially) the biggest news in physics these days - has Fermilab blown up the Standard Model. They found some muons where they should not be. They do not know why and have not ruled out a problem with the machinery. But they decided to put the data out there - although a third of the scientists involved in the experiment declined to have their names on the paper.

Anathem
I feel Mr. Orzel is misreading Neal Stephenson when he says he confuses many-worlds and the multiverse. Rather, different aspects of the plot make use of each theory. I won't go into details but it didn't seem like Stephenson was confusing them to me.

More Clip Links!
While I'm at it, am I the only one who gets annoyed when the clip links below the diavlog leave out huge chunks of the discussion? The first link on this one begins 11 minutes into the discussion! Was nothing said before that of any interest? I think you should be able to watch the entire diavlog through the use of the clips, even if some of them are just something like "Opening Remarks".

Re: More Clip Links!
That is an annoying "feature" of Bheads, but you can always go with "Play entire diavlog" (which starts from the real beginning) or fiddle with the triangular green marker on the time bar.

Re: Science Saturday: Live From Planet Krypton
Thank you for the tips. Most of the diavlog was unintelligible to me. But that is most likely a combination of factors that I can't even try to discuss. I appreciate the clarification about the difference between many-worlds and multiverse. Let's try not to collapse the wave function on a dead cat, please.
I read Jennifer's article mentioning people (academics and others) who don't watch TV. Jennifer, there are many reasons why people may choose not to watch TV. Some have little to do with the quality or potential application of the ideas presented. Perhaps you can use your imagination and come up with some other reasons or combination of reasons. I can share with you that I used to watch more TV years ago. Never as much as others, but precisely, seeing others watch too much TV kind of creates an aversive reaction. It's one of those silly human oddities.

Re: More Clip Links!
Trust me on this one, there is absolutely nothing worth hearing in the first 11 minutes. In fact, I think they should have just edited it out of the dvlog entirely.

One way to find songs you like
Jennifer and Chad mention not being able to find out the name of songs they like in this part of the conversation.
I would like to recommend a site called Midomi which (assuming you have a microphone) allows you to sing or hum a short part of the song, and then pulls it up for you. It doesn't work perfectly, but does work pretty well. (better on more well known songs)
It is part of a broader "Query by humming" notion that is gaining a foothold. I once used one on my cell phone where you dial a 1-800 number, hum the song, and then it text messages you the name and details of the song. (alas, I forget the name of it; it was several years ago)

Beer Pong Trick Shots
It makes me happy that Chad mentioned it. There are several videos on Youtube (another one) of people doing beer pong trick shots that are the greatest thing ever.
